I am an independent writer and editor. Originally from the UK, I have been based between Asia and Europe for more than 30 years, with lengthy spells in Hong Kong and Shanghai, but also variously in Bangkok, Beijing, Rome, Siem Reap, elsewhere.
I have contributed to publications and media organisations worldwide, including The Times and Sunday Times, Time, The Observer, The Sunday Telegraph, The Independent, BBC, AFP, Sydney Morning Herald, Mail Online, The Australian, British GQ, Wallpaper, Financial Times, Globe & Mail, Toronto Star, LA Weekly, Prospect, USA Today and Marie Claire, among others.
This website is a condensed portfolio, with material chosen for variety: old and new work, long-form pieces that took months to research, reporting jobs turned around in a hurry, as well as travel, humour, custom-publishing projects, occasional corporate gigs … a mixed bag.
Whenever possible, I have illustrated my words with my own photos. And I built this website (with the help of WordPress, admittedly).
